OREGON WIN PROGRAMS

Oregon WIN members deliver a variety of programs over the network including:
  • Interactive courses and seminars shared among members
  • For-credit courses delivered to regional learning centers
  • Administrative meetings
  • Local sports events and sports related programs
  • Lectures and cultural events
  • Live "feeds" to national and local news organizations
  • Fire science and emergency medical training to fire stations

In addition, Oregon WIN delivers a Monday-Friday programming feed for Public, Educational, and Government (PEG) cable access channels that reach 400,000 households in Multnomah, Lane, Polk, Linn and Benton counties. The current programming schedule can be viewed here. A list of cable channels carrying the PEG feed can be viewed here.

Programming is the responsibility of Oregon WIN members. Each member is assigned a specific video channel (ITFS frequency) and creates a program format that best meets the institution's mission and responsibilities.

The microwave paths that connect the three ITFS broadcast sites (see network map) are centrally scheduled by the Director's office. Unused time on assign video channels is available for use by others. The combination of two-way microwave paths, central transmission sites and access to cable television channels create a flexible network reaching over 70% of Oregonians with "broadcast quality" video and audio channels. Oregon WIN also connects to regional and national commercial television networks in Portland through a partnership with Oregon Public Broadcasting (OPB).

EVENT CALENDAR

Oregon WIN is developing a calendar that will display scheduling information including one-time events and selected programs from members' assigned channels.

HOW TO SCHEDULE A PROGRAM

To schedule an event over Oregon WIN, Oregon WIN Members must complete the Oregon WIN Scheduling Form and return it to the scheduling contact noted on the form. The scheduling process reserves the microwave paths and ITFS video channels. The program provider must separately schedule selected receive sites.

Individuals or organizations not affiliated with Oregon WIN may contact an Oregon WIN member and ask for additional information on how to access the network through a hosting arrangement.
